Hogwarts Homeschool – Harry Potter Fun!

Hogwarts Homeschool is something many Harry Potter fans will think of adding into their learning

I’ve loved the Harry Potter books since I was a teen and our family collects many Harry Potter Lego sets that we add to our Homeschool Hogwarts lego castle every year.

We did Harry Potter homeschooling when our oldest were younger. Now that we have a grade 2 and 3 that are starting to get into it, I wanted to start planning and finding even more fun things to do.

Here are some fun resources we’ve used, and Harry Potter curriculum options for your Hogwarts Homeschool!

Care of Magical Creatures

We used these books for our ‘care of magical creatures class’. I highly recommend that each week your student chooses a magical creature and does some notebooking.

Science- Potions and Chemistry

We really loved the book Wizard’s Workshop book for fun and easy to follow ‘potions class’ activities. My daughter has this fun set of beakers for potion making.

Science- Herbology and Botany

I’ve got a list of my fav Botany books for kids in this blog post.

I also created a year-long herb study for kids which is perfect for your Harry Potter Homeschool!

Harry Potter Baking

While there isn’t a baking class at Hogwarts, there are some fantastic Harry Potter cookbooks and baking books.

Fun Idea- Create a Harry Potter themed party

When you finish your Hogwarts year or unit study make some fun Harry Potter themed food. I see them all the time on Pinterest for birthday parties, so why not have a homeschooling year-end party! It is a great way to complete the learning.

Use a Harry Potter themed curriculum

There are some great unit studies for your homeschooling!

  • Waldock’s Wizards and Wands– this looks AMAZING and it’s been on my mind to use it.
  • Build your Library has a literature guide unit studies for each of the books. We did some of these when our oldest kids were younger and I plan on doing them again.

HP1 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Unit Study
HP2 – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Unit Study
HP3 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Unit Study
HP4 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Unit Study
HP5 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Unit Study
HP6 – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Unit Study
HP7 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Unit Study

Other Fun Ideas for your Hogwarts Homeschool

  • Go online to and take a quiz to get Sorted into your Hogwarts House! You can also get a patronus and there are other fun things to do.
  • Buy a Hogwarts robe, tie or scarf to be dressed for the occasion. I often wear my Ravenclaw scarf as the ‘professor’.
  • Enjoy watching the movies after reading each book and compare and contrast.
  • Buy or make your own butterbeer!
  • Use the audio book if reading aloud gets to be too much. I read the first 3 books to them, but I found the audio book to be superior for the 4th onwards because the books are so long (and I can’t read as long as they want me to!)
  • Play Harry Potter board games! Our fav is the Harry Potter scrabble one.

Have you done Harry Potter Homeschooling?
